Julia Fromholz

Julia Fromholz worked at the US Department of State from 2011 to 2015, serving in both Washington, DC and Islamabad, Pakistan. In 2012–13, she advised the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, who represented the Department on the Atrocities Prevention Board. She then spent two years as the Senior Director, Rule of Law at the US Embassy in Islamabad. Before joining the State Department, Ms. Fromholz worked at Human Rights First and with local human rights organizations in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She also clerked for Judge William Fletcher on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and practiced law at Keker & Van Nest in San Francisco. Ms. Fromholz graduated from Harvard College and the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she served as editor in chief of the California Law Review.

Fellowship

Julia Fromholz worked with the Simon-Skjodt Center to analyze how “lessons learned” can be more effectively integrated into US government atrocity prevention policymaking processes.
