The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is pleased to announce an annual writing retreat for Holocaust scholars. This competitive program is part of the Broadening Academia Initiative, a larger initiative designed to support the production of scholarship on the Holocaust and to provide access to the USHMM’s world-class collections to scholars who are untenured, contingent or working outside of academia. More specifically, this writing retreat is designed to provide time and space to work on original research projects and to build and sustain a community of Holocaust scholars that transcends institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
The writing retreat will take place in July 2025 at Airlie Hotel & Conference Center, nestled in the Virginia countryside, 45 minutes from Washington, D.C. All participants must be able to commit to attending the entire retreat. The retreat will provide participants with five (5) nights’ lodging, all meals, and transportation costs reimbursable up to $1,000. Participants are responsible for securing transportation to and from Airlie Hotel & Conference Center.
This program is made possible by the generous support of The Marcus Foundation.
