Campus Outreach

Each year, Campus Outreach Programs hosts two seminars at the Museum that offer North American faculty, lecturers, and advanced graduate students the opportunity to engage with our materials and learn about diverse approaches to teaching specific subjects relating to the Holocaust.

Taught by leading figures in the field, each seminar includes 15–20 participants from various disciplines, career levels, institutions, and geographic locations.

Jack and Anita Hess Faculty Seminar

This seminar occurs over one week in early January each year. The topic and dates are announced during the fall. Faculty and advanced PhD students at an institution of higher education in North America are welcome to apply if they meet the following:

  • Teach the Holocaust

  • Preparing to teach the Holocaust

  • Teach a component of a course relating to the Holocaust

David and Edward Hess endow the seminar in memory of their parents, Jack and Anita Hess, who believed passionately in the power of education to overcome racial and religious prejudice.

Curt C. and Else Silberman Faculty Seminar

This seminar occurs over two weeks in June each year. The seminar topic and dates are announced in the winter. Faculty and advanced PhD students at an institution of higher education in North America are welcome to apply if they meet the following:

  • Teach the Holocaust

  • Preparing to teach the Holocaust

  • Teach a component of a course relating to the Holocaust

The Curt C. and Else Silberman Foundation endowed the seminar in memory of Curt C. and Else Silberman. The foundation supports programs in higher education that promote, protect, and strengthen Jewish values in democracy, human rights, ethical leadership, and cultural pluralism.
