The David and Fela Shapell Family Collections, Conservation and Research Center

In 50 countries across six continents, the Museum is aggressively collecting evidence of the Holocaust before it is too late—before fragile documents and artifacts disintegrate and while those who can bear witness are still able to do so. The Museum collection is the foundation for ensuring the permanence of Holocaust remembrance, research, and education. With the rise of Holocaust denial, the power and authenticity of our collection assumes ever greater urgency.

Safeguarding Truth Forever

Survivors David* and Fela Shapell and their family led the effort to build a new state-of-the-art collections, conservation and research center, but still need your support.

  • The Museum collection is expected to double in size over the next decade. Currently 103,000 square feet, the Shapell Center incorporates planned expansion for the collection’s growth.

  • As the collection grows, so do the challenges to conserve it and prevent further deterioration of objects that were never meant to become part of a museum collection.

  • The Shapell Center includes highly specialized laboratories, equipment, and climate-controlled environments to preserve the wide variety of media and artifacts in the Museum’s vast collection. The Museum is a world leader in the preservation of perishable artifacts.

  • The Shapell Center serves as a vital hub of activity supporting acquisition, preservation, access, and educational use of the collection.

Join This Historic Effort

Naming opportunities are still available starting at $75,000. Your generosity will be prominently recognized at the Shapell Center, in the Museum on our donor walls, and on our website. Gifts of $1,000,000 and above will be recognized in a special collections, conservation and research center display that provides our close to two million annual visitors with a greater understanding of the collection’s significance in safeguarding truth forever.
