No Choice

By Esther Rosenfeld Starobin

The choice was made, Alone she would travel To a foreign country A new family To safety

The choice was made Accept the child From the enemy country Of a different religion To keep her safe

I had no say in these choices But love kept me safe Leaving again I didn’t know where I was going Would I be safe?
