About the Program
Established in 1996, the Museum Teacher Fellowship (MTF) program at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum empowers highly skilled teachers to support the Museum’s educational outreach efforts. During the fellowship term, MTFs organize and facilitate professional development presentations in their community and share the Museum’s educational resources. They also review and test Museum lessons and classroom resources, support the Belfer National Conference for Holocaust Education, and participate in focus groups, serving as teacher experts for the Museum. The fellowship term runs from June 2027 through December 2028 (18 months).
Most years, the Museum selects up to 15 educators—who teach middle school through 12th grade—as new Museum Teacher Fellows. These educators must be alumni of the most recent Belfer National Conference for Holocaust Education, demonstrate knowledge of Holocaust history, have successful teaching experience, and participate in community and professional organizations.
To prepare for their fellowship term, teachers selected as MTFs first participate in the online 2027 Belfer National Conference for Holocaust Education. Then, they attend the Pines, Sarna, and Statfeld Summer Institute in July 2027 at the Museum in Washington, DC. At the Institute, new Fellows are immersed in Holocaust remembrance, history, and education, and receive training on giving professional development presentations. Travel expenses are covered, and teachers receive an honorarium for their fellowship work at the conclusion of the term.
The 2027-2028 application opens September 15, 2026. Attending the 2026 Belfer National Conference for Holocaust Education, June 22-24, 2026, is a prerequisite for applying.
